One Injured, Family Displaced in Townhouse Fire

A fire broke out Sunday morning in a two-story townhouse on Shelldrake Court off Valley Park Drive in Damascus, prompting a large response from Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS).

According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, crews were dispatched around 10:42 am for a reported bedroom fire on the second floor. Firefighters arrived to find active fire conditions with flames extending into the attic. Multiple engines, trucks, and support units responded, with about 60 firefighters working at the scene in below-freezing conditions.

Officials said all occupants were able to escape the home, but one person suffered burn injuries and was evaluated by emergency medical personnel before being transported to a burn center. The fire was brought under control and later extinguished, though the home sustained significant damage. A family of four, including two adults and two children, was displaced as a result of the incident. The cause of the fire has not been released.
