Handgun Located in Wootton High Shooting Investigation

The Rockville City Police Department announced that a handgun has been recovered in connection with Monday’s shooting at Thomas S. Wootton High School.

Investigators confirmed the weapon was a Polymer80 9 mm handgun recovered late Monday night as part of the ongoing investigation.

A-16-year old from Rockville has been charged as an adult in connection with the shooting and faces charges including attempted second-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, and multiple firearms-related offenses, including possession of a dangerous weapon on school property. He has been transported to the Montgomery County Detention Center Central Processing Unit in Rockville, where he is awaiting a bond hearing.

Police said the shooting occurred around 2:15 pm inside the Rockville school. Officers from Montgomery County Police and the Rockville City Police Department responded to the scene, with assistance from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. The first officers to arrive located a 16-year-old male student from Gaithersburg suffering from a single gunshot wound in a hallway inside the school. The student was transported to a local hospital and is listed in stable condition.
