Monkey’s Matcha, a new specialty matcha concept, is set to open inside Lil Cakes & Creamery at 488 N Frederick Ave in Gaithersburg Square, bringing a curated, ceremonial-grade matcha experience to Montgomery County.
The shop will celebrate its grand opening Feb 15 and 16 with a Buy One Get One special on its staple drinks, while launching with four signature offerings including Salted Maple Monkey, Creamy Fig Monkey, Vanilla Rose Monkey, and Sticky Date & Coconut Monkey.
Created by self-described matcha lovers, Monkey’s Matcha describes itself as a community-driven brand focused on delivering a fresh, modern matcha experience. While the team notes its roots are international, Montgomery County is where they are building their home base, connecting with local customers through pop-ups and events before establishing a more permanent presence in Gaithersburg.
The concept was inspired by what they call a genuine love for matcha, not just as a drink, but as a culture and daily ritual. Their motto, “Be Curious,” reflects a brand philosophy centered on creativity, discovery, and pushing boundaries. Partnering with Lil Cakes & Creamery felt natural, they say, because of the bakery’s established local following and welcoming environment. Monkey’s Matcha says it uses ceremonial-grade matcha and prepares each drink made-to-order rather than batch-made, with every cup freshly whisked. Instead of launching with a long menu, they are starting with a small, curated selection to prioritize quality and consistency.
