Motorcycle Retail Giant Cycle Gear Signs Lease to Replace Party City

Cycle Gear has signed a lease to take over the former Party City space at 1500 Rockville Pike in Rockville, according to Saul Centers, bringing the nation’s largest motorcycle gear retailer to Montgomery County with its second Maryland location (first is in Glen Burnie).

Party City shuttered all 700-plus of its locations in the first half of 2025, including its Gaithersburg, Rockville, and Wheaton stores, leaving several high-profile vacancies across Montgomery County. The Rockville Pike storefront will now be reactivated by a retailer that caters to a very different crowd.

Cycle Gear, founded in 1974, has grown into a national chain with more than 165 stores across 39 states, along with a major e-commerce platform. The company is often described as a one-stop shop for riders, comparable to a Best Buy or AutoZone but specifically focused on motorcycles, whether street bikes, dirt bikes, or cruisers.

The store will carry a wide range of riding apparel and protective gear, including helmets, jackets, gloves, boots, and full leather racing suits. Riders will also find maintenance essentials such as tires, batteries, oil, brake components, and chains, along with OEM and aftermarket parts.

Cycle Gear is also known for its exclusive in-house brands, including BILT, Sedici, and Street & Steel, which offer value-focused options alongside well-established industry names.

Many Cycle Gear locations provide in-store services that go beyond retail sales. These often include professional helmet fitting to ensure proper shape and safety, free installation and pairing of Bluetooth communication systems such as Sena or Cardo when purchased in-store, and in some locations, tire mounting and balancing.

On its website, the company emphasizes its dual approach of brick-and-mortar stores paired with a robust online catalog, noting that it aims to serve both hands-on shoppers who prefer to browse in person and riders who know exactly which parts they need and prefer to order online. The company highlights its long-standing DIY ethos and its staff of dedicated riders who can assist customers in-store, by phone, or online.

An opening date for the Rockville Pike location has not yet been announced, but construction photos shared by Robert Dyer show that the transition is in its very early stages.
