The Family Room, the neighborhood retail shop located at 6820 Olney Laytonsville Rd., is celebrating eight years in business this month and marking the milestone with an ice cream-themed thank you to the community.
The Laytonsville shop, which opened in 2018, has become a familiar stop for residents looking for curated gifts, specialty items, and a true “shop around the corner” experience. To celebrate its eighth anniversary, The Family Room is hosting a customer appreciation event on Saturday, February 21st, featuring free kids’ ice cream cups all day from 10am to 6pm.
In addition to the free ice cream, customers can enter a grand prize drawing to win ice cream for a year. The giveaway includes 52 scoops, billed as some of the best ice cream in town, awarded to one lucky winner. The anniversary celebration also includes special pricing on a selection of “Anniversary Favorites,” including exclusive The Family Room apparel and items from its Neighborhood Candle Collection.
Owners Corinne Sawyer and Kim Glab say the milestone is entirely thanks to the support of the local community. They note that the shop was built with a focus on connection, sustainability, and supporting local makers, values that have remained central even as independent retailers have faced increasing challenges in recent years.
