Montgomery County police are asking for the public’s help in identifying suspects involved in a street takeover that led to damage of marked patrol vehicles in Chevy Chase early Sunday morning.
At about 12:39 am on February 22, 2026, officers were alerted to a large group of vehicles connected to street takeover activity that began in Prince George’s County and moved into Montgomery County. Police monitored the group and closed several intersections as the vehicles traveled along East West Highway and gathered at the intersection of East West Highway and Connecticut Avenue, where drivers blocked traffic and performed donuts in the roadway. Several individuals exited their vehicles and stood in the intersection, preventing officers from intervening.
During the incident, two marked Montgomery County Police cruisers were damaged, including one in which an officer was inside when the rear window and windshield were shattered. No officers were injured. Maryland State Police assisted in clearing the area, and authorities noted that three handguns had been recovered earlier during related traffic stops in Prince George’s County. Investigators are encouraging anyone with information about those involved to submit a tip to Crime Solvers of Montgomery County or call 1-866-411-8477. Tips may be submitted anonymously and could be eligible for a reward ranging from $250 to $10,000.
