The City of Gaithersburg, in partnership with The Peterson Companies and rio, will host the 24th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade at rio, located at Rio Boulevard and Grand Corner Avenue. The parade will step off at 10am along Grand Corner Avenue, with free parking available in three garages along Washingtonian Boulevard on Saturday, March 14th.
Dozens of units are expected to participate, including Celtic dancers, bagpipe bands, school groups, fire trucks, equestrian units, service organizations, costumed characters, and community groups. Dorthy Winder, a City of Gaithersburg retiree and the parade’s Lead Planner for nearly 15 years, will serve as Grand Marshal. The event will be emceed by Carolyn Muller, Director of Parks, Recreation and Culture.
Following the parade, attendees are invited to stay for Rio’s Shamrock Sales Stroll, featuring one-day sales, giveaways, live music, and activities throughout the lakefront area. Participating shops and restaurants will display large green shamrocks on their doors to indicate special offers.
Scheduled activities and promotions include family storytime at Barnes and Noble at 11am, giveaways and specials from multiple restaurants, children’s crafting workshops, live entertainment, and St. Patrick’s Day-themed food and drinks throughout the property. Dave and Buster’s will host a Luck of the Arcade Breakfast Bash from 8am to 10am, followed by prize games later in the morning.

City officials note that participation in the parade by groups or organizations other than City of Gaithersburg officials, departments, or committees does not constitute City endorsement.
