NBC4 meteorologist Doug Kammerer is watching the potential for a significant winter storm system to impact the region in mid-March.
In a post on social media, Kammerer said several forecast models are beginning to show the possibility of a large storm developing sometime between March 15 and March 17. While the exact details remain uncertain this far out, early indications suggest the system could bring a mix of weather conditions to the area.
According to Kammerer, the most likely scenario would begin with warmer temperatures and rain, possibly including thunderstorms, on the front side of the storm. That could then be followed by colder, windy conditions as the system moves through.
Some recent model run have suggested the possibility of snow, though Kammerer emphasized he is not currently forecasting snowfall. Still, he noted that snow cannot be ruled out entirely, especially given that the region has experienced several notable March snowstorms in the past.
For now, Kammerer encouraged residents to enjoy the warmer weather expected over the next few days, while keeping an eye on how the mid-March forecast evolves.
