Guapo’s GO is moving closer to opening its new Gaithersburg location, with the restaurant group continuing preparations ahead of a targeted April debut.
The fast-casual concept is planned for 12211 Darnestown Road, in the former California Tortilla space. In recent weeks, the team has taken additional steps toward opening, including holding a hiring event at Guapo’s Rio location as they begin building their staff.
The restaurant is also scheduled to appear before the Montgomery County Alcohol Beverage Services Board on March 19 for a hearing related to its liquor license.
Guapo’s GO is operated by the same family behind the long-running Guapo’s Restaurant chain. The fast-casual concept currently has several locations in Northern Virginia and features a streamlined menu compared to the full-service restaurants. The focus is on rotisserie charcoal chicken, tacos, burritos, and Latin American sides prepared fresh daily.
For longtime residents, the Guapo’s GO concept will feel familiar. Guapo’s previously operated a fast-casual restaurant at 411 North Frederick Road beginning in December 2010. That location closed in 2017, when Ixtapalapa Taqueria later took over the space.
