A Montgomery County jury found Carlo Yaque del Cid, 32, of Hyattsville, guilty of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder in the 2022 death of Edvin Agustin Leon. The jury also convicted him of attempted first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder for the shooting of a second victim, along with two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence and participation in a criminal organization resulting in death.
Yaque del Cid faces the possibility of life in prison without parole when he is sentenced on June 17, 2026.
The charges stem from a November 9, 2022 shooting in Northwest Stream Valley Park near the 9000 block of Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring. Prosecutors said the victims were led into a wooded area of the park by the defendant and others. Agustin Leon was shot and killed, while a second victim was shot multiple times but survived after pretending to be dead and crawling through the park for help. Neighbors later called 911. Investigators with the Montgomery County Department of Police, assisted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation Baltimore Field Office, determined the shooting was connected to the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13).
Several co-defendants have also been charged in connection with the case. In August 2025, co-defendant Edgard Castro-Contreras was sentenced to life in prison plus 52 years after being convicted of first-degree murder and related charges. Another co-defendant, Brayan Bonilla-Andrade, has pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentencing, while Jonathan Videz Martinez is awaiting trial. The case against co-defendant Sender Emanuel Godoy-Lemus ended in a hung jury in April 2025 and is scheduled to be retried in May 2026.
