Two Montgomery County Communities Ranked Among Top 10 U.S. Cities for Quality of Life

Two Montgomery County communities are receiving national recognition for their quality of life. Wellness Redefined, a collaboration between House Beautiful, Women’s Health, and Men’s Health, recently highlighted two Maryland cities in its ranking of the places with the best quality of life in 2026, using data from U.S. News & World Report.

Bethesda ranked #3 on the list. The publication described Bethesda as a suburb of Washington DC known for its diverse shopping and dining options, vibrant arts and culture scene, highly regarded schools, and major medical and research centers. The area’s median household income is around $191,000, and the community is surrounded by extensive green space.

Rockville also earned a spot in the top ten, ranking #9. The article noted Rockville’s proximity to Washington DC, along with its mix of boutiques, restaurants, and bars, as well as its abundance of parks and green spaces. With a median household income of approximately $126,000 and a strong local economy, Rockville was highlighted as a desirable place to live, known for both its historic charm and lively town square.

Both communities were also recognized in another national analysis focused on safety. Last summer, Bethesda and Rockville ranked among the safest suburbs in the United States in a study conducted by SmartAsset placing #2 and #4 respectively. The SmartAsset study evaluated 360 suburbs located within 45 minutes of a major city. Researchers analyzed data related to violent crime, property crime, drug overdoses, traffic deaths, and excessive drinking to determine overall safety levels.
