Gaithersburg Police Honors Officer of the Year and Announces Promotions at Annual Ceremony

The Gaithersburg Police Department recently recognized several officers for their service and leadership during its Awards and Promotional Ceremony, where Chief Eastman honored award recipients and newly promoted members.

During the ceremony, officers receiving promotions were presented with their new credentials and pinned by their loved ones in recognition of the milestone.

Officer Ryan Hyman was named the department’s 2025 Officer of the Year, while Corporal James Doyle received the 2025 Supervisor of the Year Award.

The department also announced several promotions:

Chris Vance was promoted from lieutenant to captain and will serve as Assistant Chief of Police.

Michelle Kirk was promoted from sergeant to lieutenant.

Peter Loiodice was promoted from corporal to sergeant.

John Davis was promoted from corporal to sergeant.

Mark McGinnis was promoted from corporal to sergeant.

Amy Ovalle was promoted from officer to corporal.

Johnathan Placido was promoted from officer to corporal.

Officials congratulated the officers on their achievements and recognized their continued dedication to serving the community.
