Metro Launches Contactless Parking Payments With New Tap. Ride. Go. System

Metro has begun rolling out new parking technology across its system that will allow customers to pay using contactless methods, part of a broader effort to modernize the rider experience (map below).

The first station to introduce the upgrade is Addison Rd, where Metro has launched its new “Tap. Ride. Go.” parking system. The feature allows customers to pay for parking by tapping a contactless credit or debit card, smartphone, wearable device, or SmarTrip card when exiting participating Metro parking facilities.

As the rollout continues, Metro will install updated parking equipment, software, and fare systems at additional stations across the region. The upgrades are being introduced in phases to allow for testing and refinement before expanding to more locations.

Metro officials say the goal is to make parking payments faster and easier while integrating them more seamlessly with the transit system. “Expanding Tap. Ride. Go. to parking facilities is the next step in modernizing the services we provide our customers,” said Metro General Manager and CEO Randy Clarke. “We are making parking payments faster, easier, and more flexible while building toward a more seamless, systemwide experience.”

Customers who use a SmarTrip card, whether physical or mobile, to access Metrorail will continue to be automatically recognized for applicable parking benefits. Metro says its systems will ensure that both rail customers and non-rail customers are charged the correct parking rates as the program expands.

Updated signage will be installed at participating stations as the upgrades are completed. Metro is also maintaining an online tracker that will show which parking facilities accept Tap. Ride. Go. payments as the rollout expands across the system.
