Police Increase Patrols at Religious Institutions Following Synagogue Attack in Michigan

The Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD) said it is continuing increased patrols around religious institutions and community gathering places across the county following what officials described as another attack on a religious institution in the United States.

In a message shared on social media at 5:08pm Thursday, MCPD referenced an incident involving a synagogue in Michigan and said such events serve as a reminder that places of worship can be targets of violence.

Police said that “out of an abundance of caution,” officers will maintain increased patrols and visibility at religious institutions and other community gathering locations across Montgomery County while authorities monitor the situation in the Middle East.

At this time, MCPD said there are no known threats to the local community. Officials said the department is working closely with local, state, and federal partners to stay informed and help ensure public safety.

Police also encouraged residents to remain alert and report suspicious activity. Anyone experiencing an emergency should call 911. Non-emergency incidents can be reported to 301-279-8000.
