Chicago’s Famous Giordano’s Deep-Dish Pizza Still On Track for Spring DC Debut

Chicago-based Giordano’s, known for its legendary stuffed deep-dish pizza, remains on track to open its first DMV location in downtown Washington DC, with a debut still expected this spring.

The restaurant is taking over the roughly 7,000SF space at 600 14th St. NW near Metro Center, which has been vacant since December 2023 when Todd English relocated MXDC Cocina Mexicana to 1610 14th St. NW. Signage installed at the location last year announced a late spring opening, and the restaurant has recently been hiring staff in anticipation of the debut. An exact opening date has not yet been announced.

Giordano’s first revealed plans in April to bring its iconic Chicago-style pizza to the space, located within the Hamilton Square development. The location is expected to serve as a flagship for the brand’s entry into the region, with leadership previously indicating that additional locations in the D.C. metro area could follow after the downtown launch.

Founded in 1974 by brothers Efren and Joseph Boglio, Giordano’s began as a neighborhood pizzeria on Chicago’s South Side serving their mother’s “Italian Easter Pie” recipe from Torino, Italy. That family creation evolved into what is widely considered the gold standard of Chicago-style stuffed pizza, featuring a buttery deep-dish crust layered with mozzarella, fillings, a thin top crust, and rich tomato sauce.

Since its beginnings, Giordano’s has grown into a national brand with more than 70 locations across the country, including in Illinois, Florida, Indiana, Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio, Nevada, and Wisconsin.

In addition to its signature stuffed pizzas, the menu also includes thin-crust pizzas, pastas, sandwiches, salads, and appetizers. The brand is also known for its nationwide frozen pizza shipping and catering options, allowing fans outside Chicago to enjoy its famous pies.
