Driver of Stolen U-Haul Flees After Crashing Into Two Vehicles, Taken Into Custody

Montgomery County police said one person is in custody Friday morning following a series of crashes involving a stolen U-Haul truck in North Bethesda.

According to police, officers initially located the stolen truck before the driver fled on foot. The suspect, identified as an adult female, was later taken into custody in the area of Federal Plaza in the 1700 block of East Jefferson Street.

Investigators said the U-Haul had been reported stolen the day before. The first call for a collision came in at approximately 9:45 am Friday. The truck initially struck a vehicle near Strathmore and Rockville Pike, then continued northbound along Rockville Pike. As the vehicle continued, the front wheel of the U-Haul detached. The loose wheel struck another vehicle near Nicholson Lane. The truck then became involved in a third collision at Josiah Henson Parkway and East Jefferson Street after crossing Montrose Road, where it was disabled. Police said the driver then exited the vehicle and ran from the scene before being apprehended by 1st and 2nd District officers nearby.

No injuries were reported in any of the collisions. Charges are pending.
