Award Winning Gyros Expand to Carroll County With Upcoming Opening

The Big Greek Cafe is continuing its expansion beyond Montgomery County, with a new location set to open in Carroll County. The popular local establishment will officially open its newest restaurant on Monday, March 23, at 6400 Ridge Road, Suite 3, in the Eldersburg/Sykesville area.

Founded in Montgomery County in 2009 by twin brothers Nikos and Simos Marmaras, The Big Greek Cafe was inspired by their mother, Koralia Marmaras, whose dream was to open a restaurant centered around the comforting, homemade Greek dishes she prepared for her family. The Marmaras family’s roots in the restaurant industry run deep, with their father, Vassilios, immigrating from the Greek island of Andros and working in restaurants since 1968.

Over the years, The Big Greek Cafe has built a strong following across Montgomery County, with locations in Silver Spring, Rockville, Kensington, and Bethesda, surrounding counties, and has recently expanded into Virginia. Known for using fresh ingredients and traditional recipes, the restaurant offers a wide range of Greek favorites including gyros, souvlaki pita sandwiches, moussaka, and pastitsio. Popular appetizers like tzatziki, avgolemono soup, and spanakopita, along with fresh salads, round out the menu.

The restaurant has also earned regional recognition. In a feature asking “What’s the best sandwich in DC?”, The Washington Post named The Big Greek Cafe the winner in the gyro category, further cementing its reputation as a go-to spot for Greek cuisine in the area.
