2-Alarm Townhouse Fire Displaces Three Families

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews are currently on the scene of a two-alarm townhouse fire in the 19500 block of Taverney Drive in Gaithersburg.

MCFRS shared that the fire was dispatched around 6:16pm, with crews arriving to find heavy fire conditions involving a rear deck with extension into the home and an adjacent townhouse. Due to the volume of fire and conditions on scene, the incident was quickly upgraded to a second alarm.

All occupants were able to safely evacuate. However, portions of the building were reported to be weakened due to fire involvement as firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control and extinguish remaining hot spots.

As of a 7:23pm update by assistant chief David Pazos, the fire caused damage to three units and displaced three families, including six adults, four children, and one dog. No injuries have been reported. The Red Cross is assisting those impacted.

This marks the third working fire MCFRS has responded to today. Residents are asked to avoid the area to allow emergency crews to operate safely.
