Three Maryland Restaurants Up For “Fast Casual Restaurant of the Year” Award

Three restaurants with Maryland locations, each with a presence in Montgomery County, have been named semifinalists for the RAMMY Awards’ “Fast Casual Restaurant of the Year.”

The RAMMYs, presented annually by the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington, recognize excellence across the region’s dining scene, highlighting standout operators in categories ranging from fine dining to fast casual concepts.

Among this year’s semifinalists is Andy’s Pizza, founded by Montgomery County native Andy Brown. The brand has continued to expand locally, now operating three locations in Montgomery County in Downtown Bethesda, Gaithersburg, and Westfield Montgomery Mall.

Andy’s Pizza has built a reputation around its signature New York-style slices, featuring a thinner crust with a slight char that mirrors classic pies found in New York. The approach has helped the brand gain both local and national recognition as it continues to grow throughout the region.

Also earning a spot on the semifinalist list is Call Your Mother, the popular bagel shop known for its wood-fired bagels that blend New York and Montreal styles. Since launching in 2016, the concept has developed a loyal following thanks to its creative menu, including favorites like the Royal Palm with smoked salmon and the Sun City, known for its sweet and spicy flavor.

Call Your Mother currently operates a location at Pike & Rose in North Bethesda, with an additional Bethesda location expected to open in the near future.

Rounding out the list is San Pancho, a Takoma Park restaurant that has quickly gained attention since opening in July 2024. Located at 7056 Carroll Avenue, the concept was created by husband-and-wife team Carolina McCandless and David Perez, who also own nearby Cielo Rojo.

San Pancho draws inspiration from San Francisco’s Mission District, where the pair first met in 2012 and developed a passion for Mission-style burritos. The restaurant emphasizes high-quality ingredients, including Sonoran-style flour tortillas imported from Mexico and meats sourced from local, hormone-free farms.

In its first year, San Pancho has already been recognized among the region’s “hottest new” dining destinations, with its brunch offerings and unique coffee drinks drawing consistent crowds.

Finalists for the RAMMY Awards will be announced in the coming months.
