11 Vehicle Break-Ins Reported in Urbana Area, Airbags Targeted

A series of vehicle break-ins targeting Hondas was reported early Monday morning across parts of Frederick County, with thieves specifically stealing airbags from steering wheels.

According to the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, a total of 11 incidents were reported. The majority occurred in the Villages of Urbana, which saw eight cases, while two were reported in the Spring Ridge development and one in New Market.

Airbags have increasingly become a target for theft due to their high resale value on the black market. They can be removed relatively quickly and are often resold for use in vehicle repairs, making them a sought-after item for criminals.

Authorities say the incidents remain under investigation and are asking residents in the affected communities to check any home surveillance or doorbell camera footage that may have captured suspicious activity.

Anyone with relevant footage can submit it through the sheriff’s office online evidence portal. Those with additional information are asked to contact DFC Blackwood at 301-600-1046. Residents are also being urged to take precautions, including parking in well-lit areas when possible, locking vehicles, and reporting any suspicious activity immediately.
