The Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General has released body-worn camera footage from an incident involving Montgomery County police in which 31-year-old Jamal Thompson of Silver Spring died following his release from custody.
The incident occurred on December 15, 2025, and remains under active investigation. Officials are asking anyone with additional information, including video footage, to come forward.
According to the Attorney General’s office, Thompson was taken into custody by Montgomery County Police officers and transported to a hospital under an emergency evaluation petition after police responded to a call involving a person in crisis. He later died following a medical emergency. Authorities also identified the officers involved, all assigned to the Patrol Division, and confirmed that body-worn cameras captured the incident. The IID is leading the investigation, and MCPD said it is cooperating and will not comment further while the case remains under review.
