A serious overnight crash in Gaithersburg left one person hospitalized after a head-on collision trapped a driver just after midnight.
According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) spokesperson Pete Piringer, crews were dispatched around midnight to the area of Muddy Branch Road and Killarney Lane in Gaithersburg for a reported two-vehicle collision. Initial reports indicated the crash was head-on and involved a trapped occupant.
Multiple units responded to the scene, including rescue, engine, and EMS crews. First responders worked to safely extricate one patient who was trapped inside a vehicle following the impact. After being freed, the adult patient was transported to a local hospital with Priority 2 trauma injuries, indicating serious but non-life-threatening conditions.
The crash led to lane closures in the area as emergency crews operated on scene and began clearing the wreckage. All lanes are now open and the cause of the collision has not been released.
