Maryland’s Biggest Mozzarella Stick? We Tried It

A pizza shop near the Maryland-Pennsylvania line is getting a lot of attention for a menu item that’s anything but ordinary… Maryland’s biggest mozzarella stick (video below).

Over the weekend, a visit to The Original Rocky’s Pizza in Cascade, Maryland delivered a look at what many are calling the biggest mozzarella stick in the state. Located at 14323 Macafee Hill Road, just across from Fort Ritchie and about a minute from the Maryland-Pennsylvania border, the spot has already built a following for its cheesesteaks. This time, the focus was on a menu item that’s been gaining traction online.

The “colossal mozzarella stick” lives up to its name. Measuring nearly a foot long and closer in size to a baguette than a typical appetizer, it’s packed with about a pound of real cheese. The restaurant says it uses real sauce and flour that’s not bromated or bleached, adding to the quality of the oversized dish. At just $8.99, the portion is large enough to split, though even sharing it can be a challenge.

There’s also a bit of strategy involved in eating it. The go-to move starts with the cheese pull (it looks great for social media), stretching out the melted interior before tucking it back into the crust. From there, each half can be dipped into sauce and eaten piece by piece. The outer crust stays flavorful while the cheese inside remains consistently melted throughout. Even without finishing the entire stick, it’s the kind of item you keep going back to, picking at the cheese between bites of whatever else is on the table.

And while the mozzarella stick may be grabbing attention right now, there’s already a reason to come back. Rocky’s Chicago deep dish pizza, which takes about an hour and 15 minutes to prepare and must be called in ahead of time, is also getting buzz as a potential contender for the best of that style in the state.
