A serious crash involving a motorcycle shut down multiple lanes of southbound I-270 during the evening rush hour on Monday, causing major delays in the Gaithersburg area.
According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the collision was reported around 5:30pm on southbound I-270 between Montgomery Village Avenue and I-370, in the area of Muddy Branch Road. Emergency crews responded to a crash involving a motorcycle, with some lanes initially blocked as responders worked the scene.
Shortly after, Alert Montgomery issued a severe traffic alert at 6:06pm, reporting that four left lanes of southbound I-270 were closed at Muddy Branch Road. Drivers were urged to expect significant delays and seek alternate routes.
Maryland State Police and the Maryland State Highway Administration are on scene as the investigation continues. No additional details about injuries have been released at this time.
