Nightly Closures Planned as MD 109 Resurfacing Project Begins April 6

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin a resurfacing project along MD 109 (Beallsville Road) in Dickerson starting Monday, April 6, with work expected to continue through late May, weather permitting.

The project will cover a 3.6-mile stretch between MD 28 (Darnestown Road) and Barnesville Road. Crews will mill, pave, and restripe the roadway as part of the improvement effort.

Due to the narrow roadway and the presence of overhead utilities, the work will require temporary nighttime closures in phases. Officials say closures will take place Sundays through Friday mornings between 8pm and 5am. During these hours, sections of MD 109 will be closed and detoured, with local posted detours guiding drivers around the work zones.

The phased closures will occur as follows:

Phase I: Between Barnesville Road and Sellman Road

Phase II: Between Sellman Road and Big Woods Road

Phase III: Between Big Woods Road and MD 28

Motorists traveling through the area during overnight hours should plan for additional travel time and remain alert for changing traffic patterns. The project will be carried out by the State Highway Administration’s contractor, Allan Myers of Fallston, Maryland, with crews using electronic message signs, cones, and barrels to safely direct traffic through the work zone.
