Two Police Officers Recognized For Life-Saving Rescue

Two Takoma Park police officers are being recognized for their quick, life-saving actions during a tense situation last week.

According to police, on March 25, 2026, at approximately 6:30pm, officers with the Takoma Park Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of Sligo Creek Parkway and Maple Avenue for a report of an individual in distress. When officers arrived, they encountered an adult female standing at the railing of a bridge.

Corporal Addison attempted to communicate with the individual, but she did not respond. During the interaction, the situation escalated as the woman began attempting to climb over the railing. In that critical moment, Corporal Addison acted immediately, securing the individual by the torso, while Sergeant Atakilt assisted by pulling her safely away from the edge. Their coordinated response prevented what could have been a tragic outcome.

The individual was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and care. The department is now recognizing both officers for their actions, highlighting their courage, professionalism, and commitment to protecting the community. Their response is being credited with having a direct, life-saving impact.
