A former guitarist for the Baltimore hardcore band Turnstile has been arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder after police say he intentionally struck his neighbor with a vehicle following an argument. Additional reporting from The Baltimore Banner identified the victim as the father of Turnstile’s lead singer Brendan Yates.
According to Montgomery County Police, 33-year-old Brady O’Brien Ebert of Silver Spring was taken into custody on March 31 in connection with a March 29 hit-and-run in the 15000 block of Timberlake Drive in Burtonsville.
Officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue responded around 4:41pm for a reported collision. Investigators say Ebert had been involved in an argument with his 78-year-old neighbor in the neighbor’s driveway. During the incident, and for reasons still under investigation, Ebert allegedly struck the victim with his 2001 Buick and fled the scene without calling 911 or providing aid.
The victim was transported to a hospital with serious injuries, including a broken leg. Police later located Ebert’s vehicle unoccupied in the 15000 block of Old Columbia Pike in Burtonsville with front-end damage. The vehicle was towed for evidence processing, and surveillance footage from the area captured the collision, according to investigators.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant, and Ebert was located in his neighborhood and taken into custody. He is currently being held without bond at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit. The investigation remains ongoing.
