Montgomery County Police 5th District Community Action Team officers conducted a traffic stop Thursday evening in the area of Germantown Road and Frederick Road (MD 118/355), where they observed a front seat passenger behaving suspiciously.
According to police, the individual, a 17-year-old male, was wearing a ski mask and heavy winter gloves despite mild temperatures. Officers observed a bulge in his waistband and recovered a loaded privately made firearm with an extended magazine.
The suspect was arrested and charged as an adult. Police noted that recent incidents involving firearms across multiple districts underscore ongoing concerns about gun violence, adding that the arrest may have helped prevent further harm.
