Montgomery County Begins Spring Paving, Targets 34 Road Projects

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) has begun its 2026 spring paving and infrastructure maintenance season, with crews set to repair portions of the County’s 5,400 miles of roads and 1,700 miles of sidewalks.

This spring, MCDOT expects to complete 34 roadway maintenance projects and 17 sidewalk repair projects, with schedules updated online as additional work is added. County Executive Marc Elrich said the effort focuses on addressing issues early to avoid more costly repairs later, while also improving accessibility through upgrades that meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.

Crews will inspect curb ramps during resurfacing and sidewalk work and make upgrades as needed to ensure pedestrian access. The work follows recent systemwide assessments, including inspections of more than 1,100 miles of primary roads and a 2025 survey of residential streets, along with additional repairs completed during a February pothole blitz. Using camera-equipped trucks to evaluate road conditions, MCDOT prioritizes repairs based on severity.

Officials say routine maintenance helps extend infrastructure life, improve safety and mobility, and reduce long-term costs, with residents able to submit requests for roadway or sidewalk repairs and ADA compliance upgrades.
