An update released Monday afternoon is providing more details on a house fire in Gaithersburg that displaced a family and resulted in the loss of a pet.
According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the fire occurred Sunday (4/5) at a two-story single-family home on Prince Hall Court. One family was able to escape the home, while firefighters rescued several dogs during the incident. Six dogs inside were saved, but a seventh dog did not survive.
Two adults, one child, and their surviving pets have been displaced. Piringer said the fire appears to have started in the kitchen area near a refrigerator. Damage to the home was described as moderate.
On Sunday, MCFRS crews responded to the 7700 block of Prince Hall Court and encountered fire on the second floor of the home. Firefighters quickly advanced hose lines and conducted primary searches while truck companies assisted with ventilation.
All occupants were able to escape without injury. The fire was extinguished, and multiple dogs were removed from the residence and received medical care. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
MCFRS is reminding residents to ensure smoke alarms are working and to have an escape plan in place. If a fire occurs, officials emphasize getting out and staying out without re-entering the home.
