Montgomery County Agricultural Fair Returns August 14-22

The Montgomery County Agricultural Fair is set to return to Gaithersburg from August 14-22, bringing nine days of rides, food, competitions, and high-energy entertainment to one of the county’s most anticipated annual events.

This year’s fair will once again feature crowd favorites like Monster Truck Madness, the Red Eye Rodeo, and the always popular Demolition Derby, drawing thousands of visitors for a mix of family-friendly fun and adrenaline-filled shows.

The fair has deep roots in the community, dating back to 1945 when local 4-H leaders came together with the goal of creating a county fair where young people could showcase livestock, gardening, and home economics projects. What started as a grassroots effort quickly grew, fueled by volunteers who built facilities, organized events, and supported youth competitions.

By 1949, the Montgomery County Agricultural Center had officially formed as a nonprofit organization and purchased land in Gaithersburg that still serves as the fairgrounds today. In a remarkable early effort, hundreds of volunteers constructed multiple buildings in a single day, laying the foundation for what would become one of Maryland’s largest county fairs.

That same spirit continues today, with thousands of volunteers playing a key role in organizing and running the event each year. More than 800 volunteers help bring the fair to life annually, continuing a tradition centered on agricultural education, community involvement, and accessible entertainment.

While the fair has expanded significantly over the decades, its core mission remains the same, giving local youth a platform to showcase their work while creating a space where the broader community can come together.

From livestock exhibits and agricultural displays to carnival rides and headline events, the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair continues to balance tradition with modern attractions, making it a staple of summer in the region.

Admission details and ride wristbands are typically sold separately, with ride passes allowing unlimited access to carnival attractions for a single day during the fair.
