Severe Traffic Alert Issued After Dump Truck Rollover In Bethesda

A dump truck rollover and fuel spill are causing major traffic disruptions in Bethesda this afternoon, with multiple road closures and significant delays reported.

According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, crews were dispatched around 1:39pm to the area of Massachusetts Avenue near Goldsboro Road for a collision involving a dump truck that overturned. The crash involves a gravel truck and resulted in a fuel spill, prompting a hazardous materials response. MCFRS units remain on scene, with HazMat assisting.

Just minutes later, at 1:42pm, Piringer reported that Goldsboro Road was closed near Massachusetts Avenue, with additional impacts extending toward MacArthur Boulevard and River Road. Multiple lanes in the surrounding area are blocked as emergency crews work to manage the scene.

By 2:13pm, Alert Montgomery issued a severe traffic alert confirming that all lanes of Goldsboro Road (MD-614) are closed at Massachusetts Avenue (MD-396). Drivers are being urged to expect significant delays and to seek alternate routes.

The situation remains active as crews continue cleanup and investigation efforts. Drivers should avoid the area.
