D.C. police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide that occurred early Thursday morning just across the Montgomery County-D.C. line in the Friendship Heights neighborhood. Authorities say the suspect is a Bethesda resident.
Officers with the Metropolitan Police Department responded at approximately 1:01am to the 5200 block of 44th Street NW for reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they located two adult males unconscious and suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
D.C. Fire and EMS responded to the scene, but despite lifesaving efforts, both individuals were pronounced dead.
According to the preliminary investigation, the incident appears to be domestic-related. Police say the suspect arrived at the location, shot the victim, and then shot himself. A firearm was recovered at the scene.
The victim has been identified as 42-year-old Robert Stokes of Middle River, Maryland. The suspect has been identified as 44-year-old Terrell Cross of Bethesda, Maryland.
