Bike to Work Day Returns May 15

Montgomery County residents are encouraged to take part in regional Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 15, with registration now open for the annual event promoting bicycling as a healthy and environmentally friendly commuting option.

The event, organized by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments through its Commuter Connections program, will feature free pit stops across the region, including 15 in Montgomery County. The Montgomery County Department of Transportation will sponsor eight local pit stops offering music, snacks, raffles, and vendor information. The first 18,000 participants to register and attend will receive a free T-shirt and be entered into a raffle to win a new bike.

County Executive Marc Elrich highlighted the County’s continued investment in bike infrastructure, including more than 17 miles of new bike-friendly pathways built since 2022 and ongoing efforts to expand safe, connected routes. Officials also noted that Montgomery County has more than 100 miles of bike lanes and 28 additional bike projects underway, while programs like Ride On and Capital Bikeshare help support bike-friendly transit options.

Residents are encouraged to visit one or more pit stops throughout the morning, with locations spread across Bethesda, Silver Spring, Rockville, Wheaton, Germantown, and other areas. A full list of pit stops and registration details are available at biketoworkmetrodc.org.
