Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced that the State has reached a settlement in principle with Grace Ocean Private Limited and Synergy Marine Pte Ltd., the owner and operator of the cargo ship M/V Dali, resolving part of the State’s claims stemming from the ship’s March 26, 2024 allision with the Francis Scott Key Bridge.
The agreement resolves claims brought by the Attorney General’s Civil Litigation Division on behalf of multiple State agencies, including the Maryland Transportation Authority, Maryland Port Administration, and Maryland Department of the Environment. Officials said the settlement does not address any potential claims against Hyundai, which remain outstanding. The settlement is still being finalized, and no additional details were released.
The agreement stems from the collapse of the Key Bridge after the M/V Dali struck the structure, killing six construction workers and causing widespread economic disruption. The incident halted operations at the Port of Baltimore, impacted thousands of workers, and triggered ongoing financial and environmental consequences across Maryland. The State’s lawsuit, filed in September 2024, alleged negligence, mismanagement, and unsafe operation of the vessel, seeking damages tied to infrastructure loss, environmental harm, and broader economic impacts.
