Temperatures across the D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia region are set to surge this week, with National Weather Service forecasters warning that several days could challenge or even break longstanding April heat records.
After a relatively mild start Monday, conditions will quickly ramp up, with highs climbing into the 80s and then pushing into the 90s in many parts of the area from Tuesday through Saturday. While humidity levels are expected to remain manageable, the stretch of unusually warm weather could still feel intense for mid-April.
Several daily record highs are in jeopardy, particularly between April 14 and April 17. The following records were shared in the National Weather Service forecaster’s discussion on Sunday:

The upcoming stretch is notable not just for the temperatures themselves, but for how early in the season they are arriving. April typically brings more moderate spring conditions, making multiple days in the 90s especially unusual.
A weak cold front moving through Monday afternoon may bring a few light showers and a brief period of breezy conditions, but it is not expected to significantly cool things down. Most of the week looks dry, with only a slight chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm at times.
Another cold front could arrive next Sunday, potentially bringing a better chance for rain and a break from the heat. Until then, the region is on track for one of its hottest April stretches in recent memory, with record books likely to be tested.
