Highly Anticipated Maurizio’s Moves Closer to Debut

Maurizio’s in Potomac is continuing to move forward as it approaches a key milestone next month, with a hearing for its alcohol license scheduled for Thursday, May 7.

The hearing marks one of the final regulatory steps before opening, and while the restaurant previously shared a more general “Spring 2026” target, the updated timeline now points more toward a late spring or early summer opening, likely landing in the May to June range.

Maurizio’s is taking over the former Renato’s space at 10120 River Road in the Potomac Village Shopping Center, bringing a new Italian concept from the team behind Cava Mezze, Julii, Melina, and Bouboulina. The project has carried added significance since it was named in honor of Maurizio Luise, the longtime operations leader for the group who passed away unexpectedly in November.

Plans for the restaurant have remained consistent with earlier updates, with Executive Chef Aris Tsekouras leading the kitchen and a menu expected to feature handmade pastas, crudo, burrata, chicken parmesan, and other Italian staples. Some dishes are also expected to nod to Renato’s, recognizing the decades-long presence the former restaurant had in the Potomac community.
