Construction work is continuing to move forward on Phase 2 of a roadway project near the Burtonsville Shopping Center, with significant progress made throughout March.
According to an update by MCDOT, crews focused on building a strong foundation for the new roadway, completing excavation work and installing filter fabric and geo-grid before placing layers of graded aggregate stone. New concrete curb and gutter were also graded and poured as part of the ongoing improvements.
On the western end of the project, crews transitioned a sediment basin into its final form as a Submerged Gravel Wetland stormwater management facility. The work included removing saturated soil and installing a system of filter materials, stone, PVC drainage pipes, sand, and bio-soil to support future plantings.
Construction remains ongoing along the project area, with asphalt paving expected in the near future.
