Bank of America is proposing a new drive-thru bank location in Downtown Crown, which would bring a more traditional banking format to one of Gaithersburg’s most walkable retail areas.
Plans call for a freestanding branch at 102 Copley Place, on a currently undeveloped lot at 102 Copley Pl. (positioned between Copley Place and Fields Road). The site sits prominently in front of the Harris Teeter and near the parking garage connected to the building that houses Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, placing it along one of the busiest edges of the development.
Downtown Crown, a 180-acre mixed-use community built around a live-work-play concept, has traditionally emphasized pedestrian-friendly retail, dining, and residential uses anchored by major tenants like Harris Teeter and a range of restaurants and shops. The addition of a drive-thru bank would represent a notable shift in use for the area, introducing an auto-oriented service component in a highly trafficked and visible location.
The proposal comes as Downtown Crown continues to evolve more than a decade after its initial development, with a mix of openings, closures, and redevelopment reshaping the retail landscape in recent years.
An official timeline for construction or opening has not yet been announced, and the project would have to go through the standard planning and approval process before moving forward.
