Goodwill has officially set an opening date for its new Rockville location at Montrose Shopping Center.
A banner now displayed on the building confirms the store will celebrate its grand opening on Saturday, May 9 at 9am. The location, at 5520 Randolph Road, will include both a retail store and donation center, with signage also noting that donations are already being accepted ahead of opening day.
Back in December, plans were first reported for Goodwill to take over the space previously occupied by Planet Aid. Since then, construction has steadily progressed, with the interior now appearing complete as the store prepares to open its doors to the public.
The Planet Aid thrift store and donation center closed in September, ending its run at the Randolph Road location. At the time, a representative said the closure was part of a planned relocation, though a new nearby site has not yet been announced.
Goodwill’s addition further expands its footprint in the Rockville area. The nonprofit will continue operating its Boiling Brook Parkway location just over a mile away, while the Randolph Road site brings a larger presence within the Montrose Shopping Center, anchored by MOM’s Organic Market.
The Rockville opening comes as Goodwill continues broader growth across Montgomery County, including a new Germantown location expected to open this spring at Waters Village Shopping Center.
