A Montgomery County housing project is receiving statewide recognition for its impact on affordability and sustainable development.
MHP’s The Residences at Forest Glen has been awarded a Maryland Sustainable Growth Award, selected by the Sustainable Growth Subcabinet and the Maryland Department of Planning. The honor was presented by Governor Wes Moore, Secretary Jake Day, and Subcabinet Chair Rebecca L. Flora.
The Residences at Forest Glen is a $100 million transit-oriented development that transformed a 2.6-acre site of 72 decaying, 1940s-era apartments into 189 modern, affordable homes. Through rezoning and a modern architectural approach, the project significantly increased housing capacity while incorporating green design elements such as interior courtyards and bioretentive stormwater systems.
The development is also being recognized for its focus on equitable growth. By prioritizing density near public transit and working to prevent displacement, the project aims to provide long-term stability for residents while improving access to jobs and resources. In addition to housing, the community integrates educational programming, green infrastructure, and shared amenities designed to support residents beyond just living space.
MHP thanked its partners across the State of Maryland for the recognition and also acknowledged fellow award recipients, including the Montgomery County Planning Department and the Maryland Department of Transportation.
