A Maryland State Trooper assigned to Rockville is being recognized at the highest level for his work keeping roads safe across the state.
Trooper First Class Bryce Thienhom, who serves out of the Rockville Barrack, was named the 2025 Trooper of the Year during a Maryland State Police awards ceremony held Thursday. The event honored more than 200 individuals for acts of courage, dedication to duty, lifesaving efforts, and humanitarian service.
TFC Thienhom stood out among this year’s honorees for his relentless focus on impaired driving enforcement and his commitment to professional development. A graduate of the 154th Maryland State Police Academy Class, he has taken on additional training in accident reconstruction, DUI enforcement and intoximeter certification, along with highway gun crime training.
That preparation translated directly into results. Over the past year, TFC Thienhom made 156 DUI arrests, removing more impaired drivers from Maryland roads than any state trooper has in over a decade, dating back to 2013.
The recognition comes as part of a broader ceremony where troopers, civilian employees, and allied emergency personnel received honors including Governor’s Citations, Superintendent Salutes, and Life Saving Awards.
Maryland State Police Superintendent Colonel Michael A. Jackson praised the honorees, highlighting their impact across the state. “It is an honor to recognize the sworn and professional staff members of the Department who go above and beyond to serve and protect all Marylanders,” Jackson said. “Their stories of heroism, service, and commitment contribute to the legacy of tradition and excellence that shapes what the Maryland Department of State Police represents.”
