Routine Traffic Stop in Montgomery County Turned Into Unforgettable Moment With Batman

A routine traffic stop in Montgomery County once turned into a moment that people still remember more than a decade later. Today, MCPD shared the story and video of the memorable stop.

In March 2012, officers pulled over a black Lamborghini on Route 29 displaying a Batman logo in place of a proper license plate. Behind the wheel was Lenny B. Robinson, a Maryland businessman dressed head-to-toe as Batman.

What began as a standard stop quickly took a different turn. Officers soon learned Robinson wasn’t just in costume for fun. He was on his way to visit sick children at local hospitals, where he regularly appeared as Batman to lift spirits and bring smiles.

After confirming his information, officers allowed him to continue on his way. The encounter, captured on video, quickly went viral and became a widely shared example of an unexpected and uplifting moment between police and the community.

Robinson became known as the “Baltimore Batman,” earning recognition for his dedication to visiting children in hospitals across the region. His efforts drew support and attention from notable figures and organizations, further amplifying his mission.

Tragically, Robinson’s life was cut short on August 16, 2015. While returning from a weekend festival, his Batmobile broke down on Interstate 70 near Big Pool, MD. As he checked under the hood, another vehicle struck his car from behind, causing fatal injuries.

His legacy, however, continues to resonate. What started as a simple traffic stop became a lasting reminder of how one person’s commitment to kindness can leave a powerful and enduring impact.
