Update: The Kayaker was pronounced dead at Fairfax INOVA Hospital after a boating mishap on Potomac River at Great Falls on Saturday afternoon. Police will conduct a death investigation.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded around 2pm to a water rescue incident in the Potomac River near Great Falls.
According to officials, several kayakers became separated from their boats, with three people reported in the water. All individuals were able to self-rescue to the Virginia shoreline, but one person was found in medical distress and unconscious.
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue crews reached the patient on the Virginia side before transferring them to an MCFRS boat for transport to a Maryland EMS staging area. The patient was reported to be in life-threatening condition, and all three individuals have been accounted for.
