Walk, Bike & Roll to School Day is returning to Takoma Park on May 6, giving students and families a fun and active way to start the school day.
Students are encouraged to walk, bike, or roll to school alongside friends and family, promoting healthy habits while enjoying time outdoors and connecting with the community.
The Takoma Park Police Department will also host a voluntary bike escort for students beginning at 7:30am. Riders will meet at 7620 Maple Avenue before heading out as a group.
The route will make its first stop at Piney Branch Elementary School, where additional students can join. From there, the group will continue down Maple Avenue, turn right onto Philadelphia Avenue, and stop at Takoma Park Elementary School before finishing at Takoma Park Middle School.
The escort will include one marked police vehicle along with several officers on bicycles, with additional officers positioned along the route to help ensure safety. Officers will also distribute bike safety reflectors to participating students. All students must wear a helmet to participate in the bike escort.
