A pedestrian was killed Thursday night following a crash on the Outer Loop of I-495 near Georgia Avenue, according to Maryland State Police and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service officials.
MCFRS chief spokesperson Pete Piringer first reported the incident around 10:36pm, stating that crews were responding to a collision involving a pedestrian on the Outer Loop of the Beltway between Georgia Avenue and Connecticut Avenue near Exit 33.
Piringer said the pedestrian suffered traumatic life-threatening injuries and that multiple lanes were blocked as emergency crews responded to the scene.
In a 10:49pm update, Piringer stated that the Outer Loop of I-495 was fully closed between Georgia Avenue and Connecticut Avenue, with traffic being redirected and no access available from Georgia Avenue onto the Outer Loop.
FOX5’s Allison Papson later shared that troopers from the Maryland State Police Rockville Barrack responded around 10pm for a reported crash involving a pedestrian on westbound I-495 near Georgia Avenue.
According to Papson, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel. The crash scene remained active late Thursday night, with all lanes of westbound I-495 closed during the investigation.
Additional details about the circumstances leading up to the crash have not yet been released.
