Michelle Elie, an English teacher at Montgomery Blair High School, has been named the 2026-2027 MCPS Teacher of the Year.
The honor was announced Tuesday evening during the Montgomery County Board of Education and Montgomery County Public Schools’ annual Distinguished Service to Education Honors ceremony, where 22 awards were presented recognizing outstanding contributions to MCPS and its students.
Elie, a National Board Certified Teacher, is the founder of Blair’s African American Studies Academy and has been widely praised for nurturing student talent, fostering inclusive communities and empowering marginalized voices through poetry, literature and advocacy.
She will now represent MCPS in the Maryland Teacher of the Year competition.
