Montgomery County officials joined community leaders and residents in Kensington on Saturday, May 9, for a groundbreaking ceremony marking the start of renovations at the Noyes Library for Young Children.
Located at 10237 Carroll Place, the historic library is one of only eight libraries in the United States dedicated exclusively to children and families. County officials said the renovation project will modernize the facility while preserving its historic character and expanding accessibility, programming space, and staff areas.
Planned upgrades include ADA-compliant restrooms, a new elevator, expanded community program space, renovations to the original library room, and conversion of the attic and basement into usable space. The project is funded through Montgomery County bonds, state funding, contributions from the Noyes Children’s Library Foundation, and support from the Town of Kensington. The library is scheduled to temporarily close on May 21 for construction and is expected to reopen in fall 2027 following a 14- to 16-month renovation period.
