Police Break Up Large Illegal Car Meet in Montgomery County

Police shut down an illegal car meet involving more than 60 vehicles Friday night at 14901 Layhill Road in Silver Spring as part of a larger enforcement operation conducted by the Maryland Car Rally Task Force.

Authorities arrested 20-year-old Christian Koenig of Manassas, Virginia, who was allegedly operating a stolen black Camaro. He was charged with possession and operation of a stolen vehicle along with other related offenses.

The overnight operation, which ran from 9 pm Friday through 3 am Saturday, also targeted another illegal car rally in Halethorpe involving more than 200 vehicles and spectators. Two additional arrests were made there on charges including exhibition driving and reckless driving. Police also impounded five vehicles for registration violations and recovered two stolen Camaros.
