KID Museum to Host Free ‘Invent the Future’ Expo Featuring 650+ Student Innovators

KID Museum will host the Invent the Future Expo on Sunday, May 31, from 10am to 3pm at its Bethesda location, bringing together more than 650 middle school students from across the Washington region to showcase original inventions and research projects designed to improve life on the planet.

The free public event will feature student teams presenting projects they have spent months researching, prototyping, and building around the question: “What will you make to improve life on this planet?” Participants will also have the opportunity to enter their projects into judging, with awards and prizes presented during a Keynote Speaker and Awards Ceremony scheduled for 2pm.

In addition to student exhibits, attendees can explore displays and interactive experiences from more than 25 organizations working in fields including sustainability, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and engineering. Visitors will also receive full access to KID Museum’s 28,000-square-foot maker space, with hands-on activities in coding, woodworking, engineering, invention challenges, rocket building, robotics, and mixed reality.

Organizers say the event highlights the growing importance of hands-on, project-based learning at a time when educators and employers are increasingly focused on preparing students for the modern workforce through creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving.

The expo will take place at KID Museum, located at 3 Bethesda Metro Center in Bethesda. Admission is free, though registration is encouraged. Additional information and registration are available at kid-museum.org/invent-the-future-rsvp.
